Malkit Singh

Malkit Singh (Punjabi: ਮਲਕੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ) (born Malkit Singh Boparai) MBE (born 1962) is a British-based Punjabi bhangra singer. Born in Hussainpur, Jalandhar and raised in Nakodar, Jalandhar, Punjab, he moved to Birmingham in England in 1984. Malkit Singh has become the first Punjabi singer to be honoured by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in London with the award of Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. He is most famous for the songs "Gur Nalo Ishq Mita", "Tootak Tootak Tootiyan", "Kurri Garam Jayee", "Dekh li vilyait", as well as recently, "Chal Hun," and "Jind Mahi" from the blockbuster Bend It Like Beckham film soundtrack.

He is listed by the Guinness Book of Records as the biggest selling bhangra solo artist of all time, with sales of over 4.9 million records in his 20-year career. His song "Tutak Tutak Toothiyan" is the fastest-selling and most successful bhangra song of all time.

His most recent release "21st chapter" (2006) featured the hugely popular and classic "Jago Aaya". Singh and his backup band Golden Star have toured in 27 countries.
